Experts from Croatia Visit Our School

About twenty adults stand together in a parish hall beside the Hrvatska škola Kardinal Stepinac roll-up banner, with the Croatian and American flags behind them.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Hrvatska škola Kardinal Stepinac welcomed a team of experts from Croatia for workshops with our students and teachers.

The visit was part of a program of Croatian language and culture seminars and workshops organized by the Central State Office for Croats Abroad (Središnji državni ured za Hrvate izvan Republike Hrvatske), together with the Croatian Heritage Foundation (Hrvatska matica iseljenika) and Croatia’s Ministry of Science, Education and Youth. From April 24 to May 6, the team visited Croatian schools in Boston, Cleveland and Chicago, including all three Croatian schools in our city. The team was coordinated by Vedran Iskra of the Central State Office, with Lada Kanajet Šimić of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and Katarina Telesmanić, a Croatian teacher from Ireland, supported by Andrea Katić Bruno, coordinator of Croatian classes in the U.S.

After their morning rehearsal, our students joined workshops full of language games, drama and art, while our teachers learned new methods and ideas for teaching Croatian language and culture. Our guests also left the school a copy of the book “Sasvim drukčiji jezik.”

We are grateful to the Središnji državni ured za Hrvate izvan Republike Hrvatske for this visit and for its continued support of our school, and to the whole team for their energy and encouragement. Thank you to our teachers, students and parents for making our guests feel at home. Hvala!
